Deputy Chief Minister cum Minister of Trade and Industry of Sabah, YB Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Madius Tangau and his entourage went to Geoje Island in South Korea to visit the recently officiated Petronas Floating Liquefied Natural Gas Dua (PFLNG 2). Chief Executive Officer of Sabah Oil & Gas Development Corporation(SOGDC), Dr Geaneve Jane Samil was among the participants of this visit. SOGDC has acted as liaison entity between PETRONAS and Sabah state government for this visit. Their arrival on the world’s third and PETRONAS’ second Floating Liquefied Natural Gas was greeted by PFLNG 2 Project Director, Mr Zulkurnain Abdul Rahman. The delegates were briefed by the project team as they toured the 393-meter long PFLNG 2. This facility has a capacity of 1.5 million metric tonnes per year.
The completion phase of the facility is progressing on schedule. PFLNG 2 is set to sail away in February 2020 and will be moored over the Rotan Gas Field, located 140km offshore Kota Kinabalu. PFLNG 2 will be joining PFLNG 1 operating in Sabah waters. The two combined will be able to produce up to 2.7 million tonnes LNG per year. They complement PETRONAS’ global LNG portfolio, making it a leader in FLNG technology and enhancing Sabah reputation as an LNG producer in the region.
