Sabah Oil & Gas Development Corporation (SOGDC) successfully held its annual Staff Retreat and Teambuilding Program from 6th to 8th December 2024 at the picturesque Nexus Resort & Spa Karambunai, Tuaran, Sabah. The program was designed to foster unity, strengthen collaboration and integrity and inspire personal and professional growth among employees.
Day One Highlights
The event commenced with a welcoming speech by Datuk Harun bin Ismail, CEO and Managing Director of SOGDC. In his address, Datuk Harun emphasized the critical importance of integrity as the foundation of organizational success and the cornerstone of trust and credibility.
This was followed by an inspiring talk on Integrity in the Workplace by Tuan Mohd Firadus bin Ramlan, which provided valuable insights into ethical practices and their impact on fostering a positive work environment. Tuan Mohd Firdaus is a former magistrate who has experience of being convicted of corruption. He is also now actively delivering anti-corruption messages through talks and real sharing sessions about the story behind the iron curtain. He explained in detail the causes of corruption and specialization was given to what he had experienced without referring to any other individual. He also shared his experience regarding the effects and reasons of corruption on his family and himself, especially on aspects of life where the punishment is more severe. Often appeared in lectures with a book authored by him with the title TUMBUK RUSUK PENGKISAHAN DARI TIRIAI BESI. The message was clear, i.e. Do not get involve in bribes and corruptions practises.
The evening featured a lively dinner, complete with an exchange of gifts and entertaining games, creating a warm and enjoyable atmosphere that reinforced camaraderie among staff.
Day Two Highlights
The second day was packed with engaging teambuilding activities and interactive games, promoting collaboration, problem-solving, and leadership skills among participants. All the teambuilding games were held outdoor.
The day concluded with the Staff Annual Dinner, where Datuk Harun bin Ismail delivered a presentation on the progress and achievements of SOGDC. His address underscored the collective contributions of the staff and outlined the company’s strategic direction for the coming year.
The staff annual dinner was full with exciting program. The evening started with traditional dances from Nexus staff, a surprised birthday cake for Datuk Harun, Karaoke competition and lucky draws. It was indeed a fulfilling, enjoyable and unforgettable night.
Day Three Highlights
The final day featured a rejuvenating nature walk, allowing participants to connect with Sabah’s natural beauty. The retreat concluded with end of the 3 days program with an inspiring speech by Datuk Harun and followed by communal lunch, marking the end of a productive and memorable program.
Conclusion
The 2024 Staff Retreat and Teambuilding Program reaffirmed SOGDC’s commitment to cultivating a culture of integrity, teamwork, and excellence. Through this retreat, the organization strengthened its foundation for future growth and enhanced its capacity to serve Sabah’s oil and gas sector effectively.
