SOGDC SIGNING CEREMONY

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah is charting a new phase in the oil & gas industry following the roll-out of Sabah Maju Jaya (2021-2025). Sabah Maju Jaya is an initiative by the Sabah state government under the leadership of Sabah Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji bin Haji Noor, to stimulate the growth of various industry in Sabah.

In-conjunction to the 1st anniversary of Halatuju Sabah Maju Jaya, Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam Negeri Sabah (JPAN) in partnership with Sabah Oil & Gas Development Corporation Sdn Bhd (SOGDC) hosted the prestigious SMJ-SOGIP Week 2022.  SMJ-SOGIP Week 2022 is a showcase to meet the aspirations of the state government to promote and bring economic development to the State, realign the state priorities to Sabah Maju Jaya plans, identify new sources to State revenues and strengthening involvement of the State Government-owned companies in oil and gas industry.

The event run from 24th March to 29th March that consist of numerous occasions such as the signing ceremonies between SOGDC and incoming investors, golf charity tournament for charitable bodies of Persatuan Thalassaemia Sabah Cawangan Sipitang, Persatuan Pemikir Rakyat Sabah, & Sabah Society For The Blind, conference comprised of attractive forums & exhibitions, and more. The event attracts nearly a thousand people from different background, companies, and institution to liven up the event.

The signing ceremonies on the 24th March was the highlight of the event, where multiple companies such as Bina Puri, Tex-Evolusi, and Cenviro signed their respective MoU agreement at The Magellan Sutera Resort. An investment value of RM1.45 billion and job creation for locals was created through this effort. As an icing to the cake, the event was witnessed by the Assistant Minister of MID, Tuan Mohd Tamin @ Tamin Bin Zainal. During the official opening of SMJ-SOGIP Week 2022, MD/CEO Tuan Haji Abdul Kadir Bin Haji Abdullah said:

“The investment value and jobs created are an immense contribution to the state’s development, where I believe will greatly impact the spill-over effect in this region. With that being said, I truly believe that it is up to us, that are bestowed upon the responsibility, to take the leap of faith to the next level and show our readiness in taking the necessary initiatives “

The Executive Forums is paneled by several notable scholars from the state and outside. The theme on each of the forums are Industrial Policies in Sabah, Future Prospect of Oil & Gas in Sabah, Empowering Local Participation, and Value & Supply Chain.

Local universities such as Universiti Teknologi MARA (UITM), Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), and Politeknik Kota Kinabalu would be in attendance, where students have the opportunity to participate in the attractive conference programme comprised of panel sessions and exhibitions. With the theme ‘Career opportunities in the oil & gas industry’, it is aiming to expose students to future potential employers and working environment to enhance their skills and knowledge.
